What is EconoUs?

EconoUs2018 builds on the long history of successful national conferences organized by the Canadian Community Economic Development Network (CCEDNet) and partners across the country since 2001. More than 4,000 people have attended this event over the past 17 years. This year, we expect to welcome 350 attendees from across the country and connect with over 15,000 people online.

Join the program! There are two sessions:

Monday, September 24  | 7:00pm - 9:00pm - Opening Reception
  • Building an Economy that Works for All requires new systems and ways of understanding our world so all people and the environment are deeply valued. To do this, the leadership and participation of historically disadvantaged and equity-seeking groups is a necessity. Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) are essential to creating organizations and communities that reflect our aspirations. In an era of #MeToo, Truth & Reconciliation, Black Lives Matter and LGBT2SQ+ pride, are our practices keeping pace?
  • This conversation with Natasha JacksonCarol Anne HiltonJoanna Reynolds, and William Ninacs will examine what IDEA means from different perspectives, and what we all can do to apply it everyday.
  • This plenary discussion will be moderated by Sarah Leeson-Klym, Manitoba Regional Director, the Canadian CED Network.
Tuesday, September 25  | 7:30am - 9:00am - Exploring the Opportunities of Social Innovation and Social Finance
  • Over the past year, a Co-Creation Steering Group has been working with the Government of Canada to provide recommendations for the development of a Social Innovation and Social Finance Strategy.  The strategy, expected in the coming months, could be the most significant national policy opportunity in a generation.  Members of the Steering Group (David LePageMarie BouchardFrancine Whiteduck and David Upton) will share what they heard in their year of engagement across Canada, how the strategy could accelerate community innovation across the country, and how to get involved.
