Waterloo Global Science Initiative (WGSI) is a non-profit focused on catalyzing collective action to implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Canada. Working with partners, WGSI is beginning a pilot project that supports Canadian communities in piloting Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs) on SDG progress that use localized indicators. VLRs, area regional parallel to the Voluntary National Review (VNR), are an emerging process by which sub-national governments can report on their progress on Agenda 2030 and the SDGs. Like the VNR, the goal of the VLR is to share strategies, successes and failures to assist other communities in their pursuit of the SDGs. The objective of the pilot project is to spur investment in a localized data ecosystem, support capacity within each community to use the data effectively, and create Canada’s first VLRs to report on local progress on the SDGs.

If your community is interested in joining the pilot project, please connect with WGSI at info@wgsi.org.
