Congratulations to the City of Guelph and the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) for receiving the Community Indicators Consortium Impact Award for 2013 for their work on the Guelph Community Wellbeing Initiative. The Community Indicators Consortium is an active, open learning network and global community of practice among persons interested or engaged in the field of indicators development and application.

Find 2006 Census tables more easily in the communitydata.ca catalogue with a new .xls metadata reference file that we recently put together. 

We recently acquired and catalogued 2011 National Household Survey (NHS) Profiles for all of Canada down to the census tract (CT) and dissemination area (DA) level. 

All members of the CDP have access to the Envision tool from Environics Analytics, this tool allows you to easily create a map/report with the 2006 Census and 2011 Census/NHS data.

T1-derived datasets from the Income Statistics Division of Statistics Canada (known as Annual Estimates for Census Families and Individuals, or simply Taxfiler data) are an important source of Canada-wide small-area income data.

Taxfiler data offers income-related information down to the CT and rural six-digit postal code level.  This information is generated from individual tax files from the Canada Revenue Agency, and published on a yearly basis.

Have you used CDP data for analysis?  To publish something?  Because you love data?  Let us know.  We're seeking use cases of CDP data for three reasons:

1. It helps us understand which datasets are popular and useful in a way that surveys don't necessarily capture.

2. It helps us market the program to prospective organisations and consortia who frequently ask the question: What are existing members doing with the data?

3. When we post a link to a report on the website, it gives you something to show off on your Consortium's page.

The CDP team is working hard to draft our custom data orders for the National Household Survey and other surveys. The Urban Poverty Tables are always a key component of our order. In the past, we have requested poverty data by employment status and age. This year we would like to review past practice and open up a conversation about the most useful measure of working poverty to include. Several different definitions of working poverty have been used in recent years, including John Stapleton’s work for the Metcalf Foundation in Toronto.

Over the summer we migrated communitydata.ca from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7. (Drupal is a content management system, or CMS that lets non-web developers like myself create content, like this blog post.)  Drupal 6 and its security updates will soon be going the way of the dodo; we migrated to Drupal 7 to ensure the site remains safe.
